LG is continuing their long and mostly successful tradition of partnering with Google and Android to produce the next smartphone in the Google Nexus line-up.

The latest offerings from the smartphone manufacturer is a slightly smaller version of the mammoth Nexus 5, aptly dubbed the Nexus 5X.

With a 5.2-inch screen, the LG Nexus 5X is only marginally taller than its ancestor, and is perhaps not deserving of the 5X name, but there are more upgrades hidden inside the device than you would expect.

For starters, because of Google’s ownership of both the Nexus line up and the Android operating system, the Nexus 5X (and its larger, high end sibling, the Nexus 6P) will be the first phone to come out of the box with Android 6.0, the most recent update to the OS, nicknamed “Marshmallow”.

Another awesome upgrade to the Google Nexus 5X from the N5 is the camera. Many users and consumer reviews agreed the camera in the Nexus 5 was pretty disappointing. But instead of upping the specs, which could significantly impact the consumer cost, LG has added two very important features.

The camera on the back of the Nexus 5X is has been outfitted with larger pixels, meaning better low-light performance. Partnered up with bigger pixels is autofocus software that uses infrared lasers to more accurately assess what’s in front of the camera lens for less blurry photos.

LG’s Google Nexus 5X is a smartphone that might not look very impressive, but certainly has plenty of awesome features that pack a punch.
