Logic Board Repair For All Devices

1 Day Turnaround Laptop Screen Replacement

In order to provide a laptop screen replacement solution:

1We need to identify your laptop model.

This can be provided by you for price estimates over the phone, or identified by us in-store.

1We then order your screen from our supplier - to be received overnight.

3We install your new laptop screen within 1 hour of receiving it.

You wil be alerted by text message and email as soon as your laptop is ready to be picked up.

For most Windows laptops - screens are readily identifiable by laptop model and available for installation by next business day.

  • Occasionally when there are different versions of screens available for your model we will need to remove the existing screen to identify the exact part number.
  • Some specialty laptop models (less than 1%) have very specific screens which need to be special ordered typically within 1 to 3 weeks.

Why a price range?

  • The typical price for a standard 15.6"inch laptop screen replacement is $129-$179.
  • Some specific models have higher resolution or specific features which may have a different part cost.
  • 90% of screens are standard - in some cases we need to remove the screen from your laptop in order to identify it's specific version.

If the screen wasn't the problem...

If upon inspecting your laptop, our diagnostic reveals that the display problem is not with the screen, but caused by a cable, inverter or main board failure, we will provide you a time and cost estimate for a solution. Upon getting your approval, we will proceed to complete the repair and call you when the laptop is ready for pickup. Typical cost for inverter / cable problem ranges from $69 to $149. Motherboard repair cost typically range from $149 to $249.

Mainboard Damage

When replacing the screen doesn't solve the issue or there are unusual behaviours the motherboard is likely the culprit. The screen speaks to and is controlled by the mainboard. If it has a problem you will need a mainboard/motherboard repair

Symptoms include: screen doesn't work after being replaced, screen is dim, no backlight, brightness control not working.

Customer Questions:

“My Dell Inspiron 1525 is not displaying anything and I can see cracks behind the glass. What’s wrong with my laptop?”

The LED display inside your laptop can stop working for a variety of reasons, and without a working screen on your laptop, you will definitely find day to day usage impossible.

Many models of modern laptops have two separate layers that make up a laptop screen – a glass or plastic outer layer and bezel, and then a LED display panel.

Because these are different layers of the screen, each piece can fail or break individually. Replacing the screen is not an easy task to accomplish on your own.

Instead of struggling to use your laptop with a broken screen, visit the Techknow Space!

Our convenient locations in Toronto, near the Rogers Centre, and in Mississauga, across from Square One, keep all the most common or popular laptop model screen replacements in stock, so you can always find a repair solution with us, 7 days a week.

“The screen on my Acer Aspire laptop is damaged, but is it worth repairing?”

Think about all the time and effort you probably put into deciding what type of laptop you wanted to use, and then compare that to the simplicity of getting your laptop repaired in one hour.

Drop by the Techknow Space with your sad, broken laptop and leave it in the safe hands of our friendly, knowledgeable customer service desk.

Then you can either enjoy our comfortable customer lounge while you wait, or return in one hour and get back a happy and freshly repaired laptop with a shiny new screen.

Repairing any device instead of replacing the entire device is going to be the best choice the majority of the time, especially for most laptops.

Compare the cost and time of getting a whole new laptop against the fast, simple and affordable option of a laptop screen repair – repairs will likely win every time!

The DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Solution

Replacing a laptop screen yourself can be way easier than replacing a screen assembly on a phone.

BUT -- there are considerations to be addressed.

Laptop Screen may be called a Laptop LCDLaptop LED Screen or Laptop Display

Matching the correct screen to your phone is an easy task, matching the correct screen for your laptop can be somewhat more challenging.

Indeed you should disassemble the laptop and inspect the screen before ordering your new replacement LCD/LED screen. Store the parts and screws together in a safe place or re-assemble it and disassemble it again when you receive your screen to avoid losing any of the essential parts and screws.

Even assuming you have been able to source the correct part - you may find out after performing the replacement that the screen wasn't even the problem -- display issues on a laptop (in the absence of physically damage) are not always as cut-and-dry as a simple replacement.

When disassembling - care must be taken not to damage the bezel (the thin plastic covering around the screen which covers the electronics).  Scuffs, scratches and nicks on the bezel will be especially noticeable -- they will be right there in your face every time you use the laptop.

The LCD, and touchscreen (if equipped) connectors are fragile and it is not uncommon for us to encounter damaged or destroyed mainboard connectors when laptops are brought to us after an unsuccessful screen replacement attempt. Often damaging these connectors renders the laptop very costly or even non-economical to repair -- usually the mainboard will need to be replaced.

Part numbers although very similar across screen manufacturers can refer to very different screens - even a matching part number from a different manufacturer will likely not fit your laptop.

Cable connections may be millimeters to short or even a different pinout - installing the wrong screen with a connector that fits risks further damage to your laptop.

Trust the experts at TechKnow Space to replace your laptop screen in 2 Hours.  We carry almost all laptop screens in stock - and special order in less common screens in as little as 1 business day.

Customer Questions:

You can buy screens on line from ecommerce vendors, and pursue a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) solution. While you might save $25 to $75, please be aware of the following costs and risks:

  • You will have to wait 2 days to 10 days to receive the screen in the mail. Your blind-as-a-bat laptop will be a paperweight for the duration.
  • Obviously, there is an additional shipping cost for this delivery.
  • You need to make sure you have provided the online supplier with the correct laptop model and display specifications.
  • You hope the online supplier has the screen you need and ships it to you.
  • You hope, if the screen received has the wrong specs, the supplier would willingly exchange the screen without incurring high shipping costs....and then wait another 2 to 10 days to receive a replacement screen, and pay for the shipping....etc.
  • Display problems can result from multiple causes:
    • Damaged display flex cable (a cable that connects your screen to the main board).
    • Damaged inverter (a board responsible for converting the DC electrical analog current to the AC current for use in your computer).
    • Main board display subsystem (responsible for coordinating all the display functions between the screen, inverter and the flex cable)
    • Other rare and complex causes of display failure.
  • You hope that if the cause of display problems is not the screen, your online supplier would cooperate in the return of the screen, and refunding of your payment.
  • You have the tools, knowhow and time to complete the screen swap.

There is a possibility, in the event of errors in the swapping of screens, that the screen and/or the inverter and/or the computer itself could be damaged, and require replacing/repairing...again!

If however, you wish to pursue the purchase of the LCD screen from The TechKnow Space, without having us install it, please be advised that we only sell parts on a No-Return/No-Refund basis (Parts vs. Solution).We only use brand new and original screens, which are 100% tested. Problems with these screens can only result from improper installation which can damage the screen and/or your laptop. You must be aware of the following potential problems:

  • using the correct tools;
  • risks of static electricity causing damage to electronic components;
  • damaging the back casing while un-tethering and removing the old screen, or installing the new screen;
  • damaging the bezel while removing/installing the screen;
  • damaging the webcam while removing/installing the screen;
  • exercise caution while disconnecting and reconnecting the cables.

We believe that repairs like a laptop screen repair/replacement should be left to professionals - after all, you would not do any repairs to your automobile unless you had the right tools, replacement parts, and knew exactly what you were doing. Simply watching a YouTube video may not be enough.

If you still decide that you would rather do the replacement yourself and save $50, please have the following information ready before contacting us:

  • The Laptop Make and Model;
  • Screen Size and Resolution;
  • Backlight Type;
  • Screen Part # (located on the back of the LCD screen itself)

You would need to carefully pry open your laptop screen to identify the screen part #.
