For entertainment buffs, laptop speakers are more than just another component inside of their device - they can be the most important part of the laptop. Whether you’re binge watching Game of Thrones on Netflix or if you’re trying to listen to a VoIP call, you’re going to need to have working laptop speakers.

Unfortunately, as useful as they are, laptop speakers are also prone to damage. There may be a time when you spill a sugary drink on your laptop and notice your speakers stop working. Or perhaps your laptop suffered a recent fall. After the accident, you’ll find yourself trying to push the volume buttons and the mute buttons in an effort to figure out exactly what went wrong.

Instead of putting yourself through the misery of playing the guessing game, you can bring your laptop into The TechKnow Space to have your laptop-speakers repaired. You won’t have to worry about trying to plug your headphones in every time you want to watch or listen to something at home.

Common Issues with Laptop Speakers

  • Being unable to hear anything through your laptop speakers
  • Muffled speakers resulting in lower than normal volume
  • Inability to hear FaceTime calls or Skype calls
  • Not being able to hear notifications on your laptop (such as iMessage or Windows Updates)
  • Broken speaker connectors resulting in zero sound production
  • Poor laptop speaker sound quality

“I found a great YouTube video to teach me how to do internal laptop-speaker repairs. I think I can do it on my own!”

The idea of doing DIY laptop-speaker repairs at home might seem interesting to some, but it can be dangerous to your device. At The TechKnow Space, we do not recommend that you try to repair them at home. This is mostly because some laptop models are more difficult than others and require not only special skills but special tools as well.

When you start your search online for DIY videos to use to your advantage for laptop-speaker repairs, all of the information is always designed to make the process sound easier than it actually is. This is because they’re typically created by people who are trying to make the process sound simpler, or that are relaying the repairs they’ve done on their own. There’s is absolutely no way to verify their skill level or how trustworthy they actually are.

The other important thing to know is that guides are designed to be what they are - guides. There’s no information to assist you in the event of user-error or any factors outside of what has been written.

When you take your laptop into us at The TechKnow Space, our technicians will not only be able to pinpoint the cause of your failing speakers in a limited amount of time but also repair the issue easier than the person in your YouTube video tutorial.

The best option is always the professional option because although laptops are powerful machines, they are also delicate and should be handled with care.

As a brief example of what’s involved with an at-home internal laptop-speaker repair, you may need to:

  • Check all of the obvious settings: You’ll need to check the volume sliders on the application you’re using, your volume settings, and if you have anything plugged into the headphone jack.
  • Prepare the Laptop: Before you even think about opening your device you’re going to need to backup your data, especially since you may have little to no experience with laptop-speaker repairs. The last thing you’ll want is to touch the wrong component and lose all of your important documents and pictures.
  • Opening the laptop: This is the part where you’re going to have to be incredibly diligent with your efforts, otherwise, you could end up damaging more components of your laptop that will be more expensive to fix. Remember: Every laptop is different! You’re going to have to find specific instructions for your specific model.
  • Unscrewing the Components: In most cases, your speakers will be located below your hard drive, and so you’re going to have to unscrew all of the screws responsible for holding the hard drive in place. You’ll then have to slide the hard drive out to expose the antenna cables that also need to be loosened.
  • Finding the Speakers: If you’re really motivated to attempt a laptop-speaker repair on your own, be prepared to know exactly what speakers look like and where they’re located. This could involve looking for connections on the motherboard and dismantling your entire laptop if you cannot source the location of the speakers.
  • Replacing the Speakers: If you haven’t given up on your YouTube tutorial yet, it’s time to replace the speakers. You’re going to have to find the right ones for your model of laptop, order them, hope they come in within a reasonable time frame, and hope they work. The worst part is that all of this worry comes into play before you even begin the laptop speaker replacement. During this process, you will have to be sure to avoid static charges which can ruin the delicate electrical components in your device.

The Benefits of Laptop-Speaker Repair

Your laptop’s speakers may be more important than you realize at first, they tend to be one of those features you take for granted until you lose them. There is an array of benefits you’ll experience once you make the decision to bring your laptop into The TechKnow Space for laptop-speaker repairs.

Taking Advantage of High-Quality Sound

Having access to high-quality sound isn’t something that’s only reserved for music buffs. The majority of people who watch television shows, place phone calls, or listen to music can tell when a song reduces in quality. The easiest way to explain it is to imagine you’re listening to the radio in your car. As you move further away from radio towers, you’re going to notice your music is going to sound muffled or more quiet than usual. Then when you get closer to radio towers, the music will become louder and clearer.

When you bring your laptop in for repair at The TechKnow Space we’ll give you the ability to listen to crisp and clear sound instead of dealing with sub-standard quality. You’ll finally be able to take advantage of the internal laptop speakers and music you’ve paid for, instead of dealing with poor sound quality.

Listening to Media without Headphones

The first and most obvious benefit of having working laptop speakers is the ability to listen to media without needing headphones. Headphones can be expensive and are typically an inconvenience, especially if you’re watching media while you’re at home. There’s nothing worse than queuing up your favourite Netflix show only to realize you have to find a pair of headphones first, only because your laptop speakers need repairs.

You might even find that depending on the model you own, your internal speakers provide better audio quality than a pair of headphones would. In this case, it can be better to have your laptop speakers repaired instead of paying for an expensive set of headphones.

Placing and Receiving WiFi Calls

Although your laptop will not function similar to your phone, by any means, it still gives you the ability to use WiFi applications to place calls to friends and family. In fact, you might even rely on WiFi calling while you’re travelling abroad.

When you’re home alone there’s no point to using headphones for hands-free calls, especially if you’re in the middle of something important such as doing dishes or washing clothes. Instead, you’re going to want to rely on your laptop speakers to transmit call audio to wherever you are.

Using Laptop Speakers During Presentations

As a versatile tool, you may find that you not only use your laptop for personal use but for professional use as well. In these cases, you might rely on your laptop-speakers to relay audio during a PowerPoint presentation if you do not have access to standalone ones.

Audio files such as transitions and small videos can really make or break a presentation, and in order to be the most effective, you’re going to need to rely on The TechKnow Space’s team of technicians to help with laptop-speaker repairs.
